About Us:
Central Bedfordshire is an ambitious authority, determined to be an exemplary one. Our strategic location and high quality of life mean we are one of the fastest growing areas in the country.
As a council we face the same challenges every business does – investing in the right places and delivering great results. Except for us, it’s all about our 289,000 residents. We’re totally focussed on helping to improve their lives and making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.
This is a great time to join us on our journey.
More about the role:
Leighton Buzzard Centre is more than a place where you can find books, it is a valuable resource for the community and provides a place for members of the public to apply for jobs, research topics of interest, and take part in clubs. It is also home to Leighton Buzzard Theatre.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person, able to provide a first class service to customers at Leighton Buzzard Centre. You will deliver a high level of customer service and interact effectively with a wide range of people on a daily basis. The day-to-day duties include: assisting customers to use our self-service terminals, finding books and information for customers, taking part in promotional activities for both children and adults, and dealing with library stock. You will actively promote and encourage the use of the Library and Theatre by meeting and greeting, floor-walking, and other activities. You may also be expected to carry out Front of House responsibilities during Theatre performances including working with bar staff, technical staff, and volunteers, and assisting on Health and Safety matters including potential evacuation of the venue.
You will help to deliver a vibrant, high quality, relevant and sustainable library service by contributing to Library Strategy priorities, engaging with new and existing customers and helping to increase library usage, and supporting the continuing modernisation and transformation of this important service.
Experience of working with the public in front-line customer service, IT skills (GNVQ level 2 or equivalent), and an interest in books, reading, and information are essential. While experience of working in a library would be advantageous, more importantly, you will bring your enthusiasm, great communication skills, and excellent customer service.
Although you will be based at one library, you must be able to work flexibly at other libraries if required. This post has fixed hours working Tuesday to Friday 1pm – 6pm and alternate Saturdays 8.30am – 4pm.
Join us and find your greatness by helping us to deliver better services to the local community.
