About the Role
Flitwick Surgery is looking for a Medical Records Summariser (MRS) & Coder to join their team.
The MRS/Coder manages the clinical correspondence sent to the practice making sure it is entered correctly on the patient record and forwarded on to the correct member of the team for action. They also summarise all records received at the surgery whether on paper or electronically via GP2GP transfer, according to the practice protocol. Additionally, the MRS may assist the tidying up of computer-held records in preparation for patients’ open access to records.
The role will also include coding on patient medical records to fulfil contractual obligations. For example, Primary Care Network and Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF).
Other summarising tasks as required.
Duties and responsibilities:
Medical records summarising & clinical data entry
Summarising both paper & electronic medical records according to the practice protocol.
Coding on patient records to fulfil contractual requirements.
Code letters & other information received from care providers using the agreed practice protocols.
Enter clinical data from letters & other information received from care providers, according to the practice protocol and as specified by the clinical team.
Tidy up existing patient computer-held record in accordance with the practice protocol.
Development:
To identify, together with the management, any personal training needs and to be prepared to undertake any relevant training courses where necessary.
To work continually to build on our success and improve the services offered by the practice, by constantly examining your own work, and that of the practice, and identifying areas that need improvement.
Other:
To work flexibly according to the needs of the practice,
Any other duties, appropriate to the post, as required by a manager, the Practice Manager or Partners.
Salary will be dependent on experience. We would consider a job share.
About the Candidate
This job will ideally be filled by someone with previous experience in this role or someone with a clinical background. Past employees have been clinicians nearing retirement, or wanting a new direction, who are interested in undertaking a non-clinical role whilst maintaining their medical knowledge within the NHS.
The successful candidate will be able to use the S1 clinical system, and/or learn new software systems and processes quickly.
Also required is a background in medical summarising and coding, or a clinical role

About Us
Flitwick Surgery is a semi-rural dispensing doctor partnership only 15-20 minutes from the M1, A6 and other good transport routes, ensuring easy commuting from a wide local area (we are just 20 minutes from Milton Keynes and have a direct train service to London).
The Surgery is run from a purpose-built medical centre with onsite parking.
The practice has 14,500 patients. Good CQC rating.
