For over 160 years, our highly skilled Engineer Surveyors and Engineering Consultants have inspected, tested and reported on industrial machinery from passenger lifts and escalators, to MEWP’s, forklift trucks and cranes in order to keep the UK industry, businesses and public safe. As a Unit Leader with British Engineering Services, you will inspire and lead a field-based team of 25- 30 multi-disciplined Engineer Surveyors who are experts in their discipline (Pressure or Machinery) in the South West England zone. You will support and guide your team in their day to day role which involves providing high-quality inspections for a variety of customers and industries, ultimately helping us in our mission to make Britain a safer place.
To be considered for this role you will live in the Taunton area.
What will I be doing?
In its simplest and most explicit form, industrial safety can be a matter of life or death. As a Unit Leader for British Engineering Services, you will be helping to make Britain a safer place for industry, businesses and for people whenever and wherever.
The Unit Leader is a varied role, with a focus on leadership, performance, safety and customers alongside the key responsibilities which include forecasting, conflict resolution, systems management, reporting, and day to day management of a team.
Some of your other responsibilities will include:
Completing accompanied days with all team members
Ensuring that work is resourced efficiently and effectively
Supporting recruitment across the Engineer Surveyor workforce- shortlisting, interviewing and on-boarding candidates
Ensuring that your team are achieving all operational targets and requirements
Identifying and implementing improvements in commercial performance, operating efficiency, people capability and outstanding customer focus
Building the commercial reputation of the Unit you lead and business
Administrative tasks such as signing off time sheets and expenses
Welcoming customer feedback and resolving customer issues and complaints
Always providing an exceptional level of customer service, whilst representing our brilliant company professionally

What experience do I need?

To be successful in this role you will:
Offer significant experience leading and managing field-based teams
Be organised, with experience managing scheduling and budgets
See a problem as an opportunity and welcome use of your analytical skills to aid your decisions
Have a passion for seeing people develop, and ideally hold previous experience managing a field-based team will highlight this
Display strong relationship-building and influencing skills
Be Flexible and willing to work from home
Have a positive and resolution focused attitude
Be confident using IT systems; Microsoft Teams, CRM, Procurify, FLS, Excel etc
