We’re recruiting a youth worker to join our team in the Jigsaw Project.

The Jigsaw Project is designed to support young people by reducing hospital admissions in Musgrove Park and Yeovil District hospitals, Somerset. During the project’s first year between April 2021 – March 2022, the project worked with 150 young people and had a readmission rate of 8%. We are proud to support young people experiencing low levels of emotional distress, self-harm, and suicide attempts, helping them to reduce this by working with them so they can make their own informed decisions for change.

The youth workers will need to be:
Qualified in Youth and Community Work (Level 3 or above, or equivalent in a similar discipline with relevant experience)

Experienced in working with young people with mental health issues

Experienced in engaging with families

Able to demonstrate effective partnership working

Have a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding and supporting young people with emotional distress

Using a youth work approach, the Jigsaw Project youth workers will provide 1:1 support for young people within the family home, schools or community settings, and support for the wider family by:

Providing 1:1 support and positive activities for young people

Offering parents and carers a space to talk

Providing advice and guidance for the family

Advocating for the family within professional settings

Signposting to relevant services within Young Somerset and externally

Ensuring vigilance whilst maintaining Young Somerset’s safeguarding principles

Working to rebuild and strengthen relationships within the family home

    Salary: £22,183 – £23,080

    Hours: 37hrs per week

    Contract: Fixed Term – maternity cover: Until March 31st 2024, with the possibility of extending the contract subject to funding.
